Does Anyone Actually Fall For This?

Good news everyone: I am going to be RICH! I got this in my email yesterday; do you think I should do it? Do you really think its risk-free like she says? OMG, there IS such a thing as a free lunch! I can't believe she chose ME to help her in this highly confidential matter, especially since we have never even heard of each other! I am sure I will just have to transfer a few thousand of my own dollars into her account, ya know, to get the ball rolling, and then she certainly wouldn't bail with all my money! I am SOOO lucky and now I am going to be a millionaire!!!

Confidential message.

Attn Director:

I am writing this mail to you from my residence because of how confidential it is,this letter contains some confidential materials and should be delected from your mail box if you are unable to help me out concerning the proposal.I am the wife of late Gen Robert Guei here in Abidjan.

I and my colleagues have an amount of 28 million dollars in the international remittance bank here in Abidjan belonging to my late husband Gen Robert Guei who was shot dead together with my two children last September by the Government soldiers here on an accusation of plotting a failed coup de etat.this money was 58 million dollars but some have been used in the importation of arms by my late General until he met the unexpected death.

I have all the necessary documents involved in the deposition and the withdrawal of the part of the money and the next of kin was his personal security guard who also met death. Now I want you to stand as the next of kin and help us transfer this amount of money out from here. This business is 100% risk free and I will prepare all the documentation and prove the source of the fund before the transfer.

I want you to know that this business involves I and 2 top officials in the bank and must not be taken as a joke,I advice you to think very well before responding because we need a very strong hand in this transaction.

Your percentage and other important details will be discussed once I confirm your kind willingness in helping to the transfer. I await your
postive response.

Thanks,
Mrs Mariam Guei

Are you saying I won't get my share of the $20 million that he promised in the letter?

My mom always told me, anything that seems too good to be true, IS.

You'll still remember all us little people when you are rich, right?

I've seen things on those news TV programs (20/20, 60 mintues, etc.) about how these scammers have scammed hundreds of people and I do have a hard time wondering if it isn't survival of the fittest. I mean, if you fall for this random message in your inbox do you deserve to lose your shirt? Or the old saying "a fool and his money soon part" type thing.

OK, that's mean, but c'mon!

oh gosh... some people actually do! my parents were almost duped when they received an SMS message telling them that they won a significant amount of money in the casino (they're regulars) and that they'll be able to retrieve the money if they just send a prepaid load to the sender's mobile number. oh how we tried to un-convince them! thank God, they don't have email!

That's a GREAT post ~ thank you for that! It made me laugh and smile. I get these emails almost everyday, so annoying. I'm wondering why with all my spam blockers, spyware shields and the like, these emails still get in.

For real fun with these spammers, go check out what this guy does with em.... http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/

I get those things too, it always makes me laugh to think that there are people out there who actually go for these things. Although I am sure anyone who would even consider these things would have to be very very very desperate!

you would be surprised how many STUPID people are walking amongst us that would fall for that!!!

I love it when we get these faxed to us at work, especially when they claim they are a long lost relative. Uh, no, I don't think so.

I wonder how many people do fall for it though....

Ya know, I hate to say it, but there is a sucker born every minute. So that is why that crap keeps circulating.

Had some guy show up to my G-ma's house to "repair" her roof. (Her roof was two years old.) So, she told him to come back the next day and pick up his check. (He wanted the money up front.) So, the Deputy was standing in her driveway the next day, in full police scary man stance, when the guy pulled up.

The guys eyes about popped out of his head and he kept on driving.

Take that ya little bleep bleep!

Fell for it? Heck no. I took ADVANTAGE of it and am now posting aboard my yacht anchored off of the French Riviera! "Louis, more champagbe, s'il vous plait!"

The thing I find amazing is that somewhere, SOMEONE must fall for these things - otherwise the people wouldn't send them out. Bizarre.

I tried to sell a car on AutoTrader's internet site a few months ago and got deluged with people from far corners or the world wanting to send me money orders for more than it's value.

Not me! But it is very sad that they are around scamming people. I would guess that it is probably old ladies who have no idea....sad.

Miriam and I are buds, didn't I tell you? She's perfectly legit, wouldn't take your money, you can't be so cruel and suspicious!!!!!!!

Clearly way too many do fall for it, or they'd have stopped sending them to the rest of us by now. #*%&*))@_

If we treat the people who do fall for these as stupid then they will not come out the closet to warn others. Even really bright and otherwise sensible people have fallen for them. And some have been murdered. Its called a 419 Nigerian scam and there are some hilarious sites out there where people have bravely baited the scammers and even managed to get stupid photos and small amounts of cash out of them!

This guys site is pretty funny. He strings that scammers along for quite a while and he uses some great phoney names
