So its 11:15 pm right now, a time when I am usually in bed, all Nyquil'd up and watching Friends reruns, waiting to fall into a deep sleep. But instead, we have a visitor in our home. Nope, not a flying squirrel (thank God for that). A plumber.
I was out for a good chunk of the day today at my mom & dad's. I got home a little before 9 and everything seemed normal. We put Princess to bed, blah blah blah...then Hub comes up from the basement and asks me to come down and help him. With what? Just come down.
We recently had our hot water heater burst, and water filled the basement. So that is what I was expecting. But no. This time I was hit with the stench. The slop sink was filled with nasty, dirty water and it smelled like poo. Well, not really like poo, more like bits of rotten food and such. So my help is not really needed because there was only a smell and no random soggy belongings to clean up. Except that I needed to encourage Hub to call someone about it tonight, rather than having me do it tomorrow. All the ads in the yellow pages say "24/7, no extra charge for nights and weekends!" So why wait till tomorrow?
The guy was here within about 30 minutes, which was a good thing. He is charging us $245.00, which is a bad thing. Or maybe that's a good price, I don't know. No matter what kind of plumbing work you get done, or house repairs or car repairs for that matter, you always feel like you are getting ripped off.
So the guy is still here, I have not taken my Nyquil, and I am tired. Oh, and while the heatwave broke today and the temp reached a cool 85 degrees (and it felt downright brisk, I might add), the air conditioner repair guy can't come until Friday. So we have a hot, smelly house. Oh, and spending the day with Princess by the pool yesterday gave me painful sunburn on my shoulders. Just wanted to share with you. Aren't you glad I did?

I hate calling the plumber.
locksmiths are just as bad. last time i locked myself out it was a public holiday!
hope things start looking up, imagine how on Saturday your home will be a cool, fresh smelling igloo, and your sunburn will feel much better :)
ah true, i hope you've managed to get some rest since, and it all is sorted out. plumbing problemsare horrible, i hate them!! and so expensive!!!
Yuck.
Even for $245, it's got to be better than rumaging through the grossness yourself.
Poor you! But also lucky you - I am finding it almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a plumber to come out and quote me to re-jiggle our one big bathroom in to two small bathrooms. Hope the smell subsides soon ...
First the AC and now this! You poor thing! Sorry, sweetie. SOunds like you need me to make you a drink ;-)
I've tagged you for a meme over at my place, if you want to play.
I always feel violated after a car or home repair. I feel like calling a rape hotline.
Our water hearer went a couple of weeks ago with a faulty ballcock. There was minimal damage and was repaired instantly. It didn't cost us a penny as we had a contract with the company.
OOH, water heater problems...yuck.
I hope you feel better soon. At least you don't have jock itch...lol.
That sucks....
The house I used to live in (Luckily, I dumped it on the ex-wife) had horrible septic tank problems....
Anyway, i won't go into all that, but I will tell you that because of the problems, when you'd run water for the shower in the morning, you'd get a horrible stench for a few minutes.... Talk about nasty... try waking up to that every day.
I am so glad I am out of there!
Hope you get everything working!
And BTW- I am jealous of the 85 cold front.... wish we could get some of that!
I just have one very important question. Was the plumber guy cute? After being addicted to Desperate Housewives, I know think very warm fuzzy thoughts every time the word plumber is mentioned :)
Wanna come to my house? Neighbors have a pool!??!
Wow! Talk about a rough day...hope things are on their way to being fixed now
Brutal! I agree, why wait? YUCKO.
Wonderful! Ugh, hopefully the plumber didn't show any crack while repairing the HWH. I will wish Friday to come to you quick!!!
I hope you get a good Nyquil rest soon! And don't forget about the Aloe on your sunburn!
See, I am just so glad its not me. I am sorry it's you, though. Sounds pretty hot, muggy and disgusting. Ick!
Jeez, I can smell your basement from here! We had the same thing happen a few months back, only it was Hubby & my dad who were snaking out the drain ... my two free plumbers. :-)
I hope you got it all fixed!
85 degrees! I am envious! It's like the 60's hear, cold and gray!
PS the Nigella restaurant was made up :)
It's times like that I wish I rented so I can just pick up the phone and call the landlord. I used to rent to a friend and she would call us to change a light bulb. Thank goodness she was right downstairs. I guess she got her 550.00 a month worth.
At least if we were out till 3 in the morning we came home together.I'm not really complaining. It has it's good points.
Hope you made it to bed at a decent hour. How did the plummer make out? $245 seems to me like a break from what a lot of people would charge to come out at that time at night. And getting rid fo the God aweful smell would definitly be worth it.
WEll that just sucks doesn't it??? Don't worry that question was rhetorical! Hope you have a cool sweet smelling house soon!
Sorry about the stench. That must be frustrating! I hope everything is back to normal soon.
Hope you are feeling better today.
By the way, when you are feeling up to it, I tagged you. You're it.
I know how much you love memes.
Well Jersey, it looks like you are having a bit of an adventure! Hope everything gets fixed soon, and the stenchy smell goes away.
Take some NyQuil and call me in the morning, honey! LOL
Good luck.
