And Then There Were Three

Not so much to say today about American Idol (at least I don't think so, but once I get started who knows?). There is no one left to hate, all three contenders are pretty good and any one of them would be a good American Idol. Each contestant sang three songs - the first was chosen by Clive Davis, the second they chose themselves, and the last song was chosen by one of the judges.

We started with Vonzell. Her first song was the only sucker of the night. She was pitchy and just off through most of the song. Her two other songs were great. And Simon is right - she is very likeable and that can't hurt. She is strongest when singing the "belters" - where she gets to belt out the song and show off her voice - so singing Chaka Khan and Whitney and Donna Summer works for her. I was impressed with her performances tonight (other than the first one).

Next came Bo. He was terrific. His second song, which he sang without any background music - WOW. What a risky move, and it seriously paid off. Hub and I had just said that he didn't have the best voice but that it was his incredible stage presence that carries him...then he sings a capella and his voice sounds AMAZING. His last song, chosen by Paula, wasn't terrific, but that was the song choice and not the singer. He still did great, it just didn't show off his voice properly.

Finally was Carrie. She was terrific as well. As soon as they announced which third song she'd be singing, I knew it was perfect for her. She sounded perfect through all three songs, and even showed a bit of personality during the last song. She will, no doubt, be a successful country singer because she has the voice and the looks for it.

Even the judges seemed quite pleased with the performances. There were no hurtful put-downs by Simon, and I think he might have actually even cracked a smile once or twice.

So what will happen tonight? I think its inevitable that Vonzell will go home tonight. She's good, but just doesn't have the "it" factor that Bo and Carrie have. I think she needs some more vocal training to get better control over her voice, and then she will be phenomenal. Once its down to Bo and Carrie, your guess is as good as mine.

All I can say is Ditto. They were all good and I don't know who to choose either.

I voted mostly for Bo last night, and some for Carrie. From day 1 I was hoping it would be those 2 in the final. I like Vonzell too (but whoever in her family was wearing that fuscia suit last night needs to be pulled aside NOW :op), but Bo and Carrie are the best. Carrie will really have to step up the personality to pull it off - Bo is on fire right now, and I think he's awesome. He was meant to be on stage.

Between those 2, I honestly don't know who I'd vote for yet, just have to watch it and see how they do.

I still miss Scott. It was fun having someone to laugh at...

But anyways... Bo took it all last night. He should win it all... At this point, I don't even care about the girls (even though Carrie is a cutie).

Vonzell will go crying into tonight, and the dream matchup the show has been looking for will be fought out next week.

don't be shocked if Carrie goes home tonight! Bo will eventually win it all, but they will make a wimpy pop star out of him...poor bastard!

Thanks for the update--I knew I could count on you! We missed the show because we were at a Pops Concert because my daughter was performing!

BUBYE Vonnie babe...Bo's got it in the bag! I love this! less than 1 % separating them all ...they all have record deals...they are all on my list...I just think it'd be really cool to have a rocker win!

I don't watch any part of that show except the Wed. night announcement of who is leaving. Tee hee. (Hey, I have other stuff to watch!) Anyway, I'm still thinking Bo will win.

I only watched bits and pieces of the performances last night. Bo was awesome and the other two I just don't care for at all. As long as Bo is sticking around tonight I don't care who gets booted.

I agree - they were all good. It will be interesting tonight. Whatever happens, Bo has already made it big. No doubt.

I agree with every thing you said. I was at a Dodger game so I couldn't watch itl but I did as soon as I got home. I don't really want V to go home but they all can't be the American Idol and she doesn't quite have all that the other 2 do.

Did Bo ever sing Sweet Home Alabama? If not, why wouldn't they pick that for him?? That was the worst song for him (Satisfaction). Duh, Paula, pop some more pills.

I am very disappointed this year. They are all so bland. Last year the cast had soooo much flava. Fantasia actually brought me to tears more than once. This year is way to vanilla. No soul.
And I am not just saying that because they ousted my man Constantine, but he was the only one with a little spice.

I think Vonzelle is history tonight. My prediction is Bo will win, and we probably will never hear from Carrie again until she rises through the ranks of the country music chart. In which case I will never hear her again because I hate country music, (no offense to anyone who loves it).

I think I'm a ditto on Vonzell, but I don't think it matters -- you know she's got a record deal. She's a wonderful singer. As for Bo v. Carrie, I think Carrie should get it and here's why. I've loved Bo from the beginning, but he doesn't care. This whole American Idol thing is just one big trip to him and he really doesn't seem to care if he makes it or not. Not that I begrudge him that, but since we all know he's going to be fine in his music career I think Carrie should get it. She sings her heart out every week and is so fabulous (as long as she isn't singing blah showtunes) and she seems to really want it. And I want it for her.
But we shall see tonight! Fingers crossed!

I've liked Bo from the start, but I haven't watched for a long time now. I'm kind of tired of it and I gave up on Survivor as well. I still hope Bo wins though.

I agree completely. I wanted to route for Vonzelle, and she was great, but not as good as the other, too. I think Carrie stepped it up a bit in the last two songs and added a little spark hadn't seen before.

Bo is a classic. It's like you think he's already a star from he 70s and its strange to see him competing.

They are al nice people, oo.

I started as a Carrie fan, but now I heart Bo.

Thanks for stopping by yesterday!

I am getting so confused.. because i am not watching I only hear all these names on your blog True and I was CONVINCED you hated Bo and now you like Bo, but my bad and never mind. I am glad you like all the finalists, although it makes better blogging when you hate them (hehe, i like your angry ranting at the judges!)

I just slept 12 hours, and am feeling much better but a bit whoozy! and yes., it was a short trip, which probably didn't help on the knackered scale...

Maybe Bo will pull a Survivor Ian maneuver tonight and tell Carrie he'll step out of the running if she promises to sing a Metallica song...
