Didn't You Hear? Gays Caused the Hurricane. Yup.

But first: I told Bridezilla to do her own dirty work if she felt it was necessary to get on her soon-to-be- MIL's "good side" by telling her that she needed to return the dress she loves because it was the wrong color. And I am saying screw the surprise for the shower, and my selfish cousin is going to have to be the one to tell Bridezilla about that. I have done more than my share of work for this wedding, and this chick is DONE. See yesterday's post if you have no idea what I am talking about.
--------------
And this: Please, if you can give, give. Go to Redcross.org and be as generous as you can be. We are the country that gives the most to other countries in need...and now WE are the ones in need. Do your part.
------------
I found out about this over at Patsy's, who got it from Anti-Everything. You can read the whole "article" (I use that term very lightly) at this horrible and hateful website.

Can you believe that in the middle of all the devastation that is going on in the south right now, there is a group that has the time to sit down and figure out how to make it a religious and political issue?

Right, because didn't you hear? It is the fault of GAYS that Hurricane Katrina destroyed everything. That's right. You see, there is a gay festival down there that would have started yesterday, so God destroyed New Orleans because He did not approve. Ah, I understand. God is all-powerful, right? So instead of taking care of things by say, not allowing gays to exist, or singling out gays and killing each one of them individually, God decided that it would be best to destroy the entire Gulf Coast. Millions of innocent people's homes have been destroyed, who knows how many people have died, and the survivors' lives will never, ever be the same again. And God did all of that to punish the city for hosting a gay event. What a wonderful and merciful God these people pray to!

It is APPALLING to me that these so-called Christians are so full of hate that they would blame something like this on gays and make it into a "talking point" when what they should be doing is gathering food and water and money and medicine and necessary supplies for those in need. Isn't that what God would want? Aren't they the ones always asking "What Would Jesus Do?" This is a perfect example of why these right-wing religious nuts are scary and dangerous.

I emailed these morons, and here is what I had to say:
"Blaming gays for the devastation of the Gulf Coast is ignorant and self-serving. Why, then, did God destroy a good, Southern, God-fearing place like Mississippi and yet He spared most of the French Quarter the same absolute devastation? You are a bunch of hateful, horrible people who look to other peoples' misery to promote your own cause. This is something God would not approve of. Shouldn't you be spending your time and energy helping those in need, as God would want us to do, rather than disseminating this kind of ridiculous banter? You need to start looking at yourselves before you judge others."

This is two rants in two days. Watch out, people, I am on a roll.

I wouldn't let these asshole consume my thoughts. There are always going to be these kind of nut jobs out there. Too much politicizing of this. There are more important tasks at hand. By the way Catholic Charities are helping in the relief effort.

That's just unbelievable. Just when you thought the right-wing Christians couldn't stoop any lower. I wish I could be there when they all get to the Pearly Gates and are told that they'll be taking an escalator downstairs.

There have been plenty of stupid comments from both sides. My favorite so far has been RFK Jr and his statement that Mississippi was hit so hard because the governor there didn't sign some piece of paper. Or those that say hurricanes wouldn't happen if we'd signed Kyoto.

Even for the few that might have a valid point in there somewhere, now is not the time.

I would ignore those assholes. I want to rant on BUSH Instead!

Its awful that at a time like this, during this catastrophe, people would even think about blaming this on anything but mother nature. Its wrong. People are dying. Why can't they put their self-righteous religious beliefs on away for just one minute to actually mourn?

Many of the older people in the assisted living place my sister works at voiced that same opinion. Not about gays specifically, but about the sinful state of N.O. One old lady compared it to the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah. Unreal.

Time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all.

That site is completely ridiculous. I've heard some other Christians who've spouted heartless and/or insane ramblings as well. Then on the other hand, a vast majority of the relief organizations collecting right now are religious-based ones. I wonder if the money and supplies will actually get down to the people who need them or they'll wind up in some commune of "God-fearin' heteros" or used to assassinate that Venezuelan leader.

I hope this doesn't post twice because my computer crashed halfway through.

I forget to mention you have a nice looking site here. And I've had "A Favor House Atlantic" stuck in my head for awhile now too.

This makes me sick! I mean, I feel physically ill by the ignorance of these people. I can't believe anyone would ever say that... Scratch that, I can believe it, and that is even scarier!

I'm glad you let them have it but I'm sure your email will fall on deaf ears.

Unfortunately these people are too closed-minded to ever be able to come to grips with how they are living their lives in hate.

i went to the site and tried to e-mail them as well, and their e-mail is now disbled because of the volume of e-mails they are getting. hopefully from lots of hate mail! I'm so upset, i had to post about it too.

I can not believe those people said that. What the hell is wrong with them? Urgh!
As for Bridezilla, you are doing the right thing. Let her do her own dirty work. I can't believe after all the hard work you did, you are having to change ANYTHING. He should have rescheduled his bparty come on!

I've heard that "Sodom and Gommorah" thing, too, because of Mardi Gras. It is too bad that Mardi Gras has become a college drunk, instead of the parades and stuff that it used to be. But, whatever. Every country and every person is not immune to some disaster and it's not a punishment. It's just life on this Earth.
I hope those "Christians" have a freak funnel cloud come down and whip their house to shreds. I'd love to see the look on their face then!

Reading that article made me sick to my stomach. I am very much a religous person...that man and his group are just a bunch of NUTJOBS who call themselves Christians. They make the rest of christians etc look horrible. People like that are scary. People like that are ones who have cult following such as that Koresh dude in Texas way back. So very sad that anyone would take away from the heartache in New Orleans right now by spewing that kind of BS. And heres my thought, if he really believes what he says it makes u wonder why Vages is still standing. Argh!!

I have found that hate-mongers have no love for themselves much less anyone else. Sooner or later their idiot status shows like Pat Robertson. I focus on people of goodwill and humor who DO have something to contribute regardless of backgrounds and all of that. Nice to read something upbeat (Bridezilla!!) after so much tense news!!! Have a nice weekend!!!

Please, go three for three. I couldn't agree with you more; nice work refuting the red-neck nut-jobs!

Thank you, True, for standing up to the hate-mongers.

bravo, true.... bravo... i hate it when people put labels and claim it as this and that. it shouldn't matter whether they're gay, straight, black, white... we are all humans.

I think there is a special place in Hell for those who use these devastating tragedies to forward their own twisted agenda.

I love your answer to the gay bashers! Did you get a reply? Maybe something like, "Well, we know what god wants, and he don't want no queers so he'd just as soon kill everyone in the area than let them queers have their party!"

Scary fucks! Nicely said!
