Random Stuff on a Thursday

If I haven't visited you the past few days, please don't desert me or think I don't love you anymore. I have just had so much going on, and no time to wander. But I will come see you today!
------------
Isn't it just the best when someone mentions you on their blog - and is complimentary about you? Its so often that people try to be snarky instead of nice and they end up being just mean. But - I had the privilege of being mentioned on WS Cross's blog, and here's what she said about yours truly:

"A True Jersey Girl is pretty much representative of the modern woman today: opinionated, generous, funny, talkative, down-to-earth, a lady who speaks her mind and has lots of friends leaving funny comments on her site. Sub-titled "Big Hair, Bon Jovi and Bruce," she's just as likely to show you her family photos as tell you why the governor pissed her off recently. Ever wonder how Jersey girls think? Here's your chance to find out."

Aw, I am blushing. Well, go on over and check her out (you are all adults, right?). You will be glad you did.
-----------
RockStar INXS: If that girl Jordis does not win this whole thing, the only reasoning can be that they don't want a chick singer. Her voice is phenomenal (it gives me chills), her stage presence is amazing, and the emotion she portrays in her songs is tremendous. If INXS doesn't take her, they are morons. And whatever band does snatch her up will be on my list of "Next CD To Buy."
-----------
Did anyone see that show about feral children on TLC the other night? It was a documentary about kids who are basically abandoned by their parents (mostly due to alcoholism) and are raised by dogs. The kids have been fed by stray dogs who bring them scraps of food they find, they are kept warm by the dogs snuggling with them, and in some cases, the dogs have even breastfed the kids. All true stories. It was facinating to see how the kids just cannot learn language beyond a certain point because it has to be learned by a certain age or the brain shuts down. The most disturbing thing (other than the glaring fact that dogs are more capable of caring for children than some humans are) was that one of the "mothers" who left her kid locked in her bedroom for 13 years (the girl could not speak at all; she had never been spoken to) was somehow allowed to make the decision at some point that the researchers and language professionals who were helping her had gotten too close to her. She was then put into one adult home after the next, never able to see the only people who ever cared for her at all. I don't get how a woman like that gets to make any decisions, for anyone.

Finally, they are going to makeover Patsy's house!
-------------
And finally, try this. Its pretty funny!!! Have a great Thursday!

Jersey,

Yay to you for being recognized...I love your blog as well, and totally agree that you are everything she has claimed that you are! WTG!

I wanted to watch that show the other night, but I either got too tired and turned the TV off, or started watching something else, not sure. (The Alzheimer's is kicking in!)
I thought it would just be about children that were basically out of control...had no idea, the content was children being raised by dogs! That's absurd and very sad! Do you happen to know where this takes place?

Going to try whatever it is you suggested here!

Have a great day!

That was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!!! I got the ogle meter way up there, by the way! LOL

I HEAR YOU JERSEY! it's tough visiting all the links each day, very time consuming! I always feel bad when I can't reciprocate daily!

I so hope you didn't think I was being snarky - just extremely jealous. ;-)

Jlybn123: Several of the kids were from a depressed area of the Ukraine, and at least one was from the US. They said that unfortunately, this kind of thing isn't as rare as it should be.

Kathleen: You were totally not snarky! And I don't mind a little snark now and again - it was just nice to hear something SO positive, kwim??

Raised by dogs? Good God, what is this world coming to? I need to watch that show.

Crap. I forgot to watch that show. We studied children like that in my Sociology class, discussing nature vs. nurture. It's amazing the difference that the most basic human contact can make.

It's great when people love your work!!! FYI, I love your blog too :-)

I was here earlier and then I got lost in the boob game. Sorry.

That was fun!

Man! I missed that special on TLC and it sounds fascinating. amazing that dogs instincts are better at raising a child than some humans are capable of, realy sad actually.

Congrats on the nice words, they are very true! You rock!

Congrats on the recognition, you of course deserve it.

And that bit about the Feral Children? I missed the show, but I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm not sure why, I know it will only make me cry, but I have a bit of fascination with this kind of subject matter.

Just reading about that TLC show you saw makes me incredibly sad. *shakes head* Good to know that TLC is still showing something besides house makeovers though.

And of course everyone agrees that Cross shows excellent taste and judgement.

i LOVE that game..

LOVE IT!

Dogs?....Wow thats crazy. I have to see that show. I don't know why people treat their kids so badly, if they don't want them then don't make them...or give them up. Don't hurt them.

Dear TJG,

I meant every word, and I treasure your support and comments. Cassie's almost a Jersey Girl (Philly, South Philly, spent summers "down the shore"), and you are the reader I'm trying to reach. Keep on keepin' on and don't ever change!!

I got addicted to Rock Star:INXS too. Now I TIVO every episode, when it was just a fluke (read: boring night after the kids went to bed) that I saw it to begin with!

I love, love, love Jordis. But honestly, it is Mig who I think fits that particular band the best. I enjoy hearing her sing much more, to be sure. Last week -"the man who sold the world"? That was spine tingling. But I can picture Mig the lead singer of INXS much easier for some reason. I vote for them both, along with Ty.

Anyway, I am relieved to know I'm not the only one who thinks that show rocks!

That whole TLC program content makes me sick to my stomach. I didn't see it, but it sounds like the kind of thing I would torment over for a good long time, so I probably shouldn't see it.

Kids raised by dogs? That is just too awful. A child locked in a bathroom for 13 years? Unimaginable. It makes my heart hurt badly. I know bad things happen to kids all the time. It sickens me.

Good for TLC for making people aware though. I wish people would notice when things don't seem right for kids more often and report it. I know some would still fall through the cracks... but maybe a few more could be helped?

I just don't know what more we can do, other than make more people aware, and to ask our government to earmark more tax dollars for kids at risk. Just awful.
