Tonight begins my boycott of American Idol. There are lots of reasons to boycott the show (its the antithesis of real rock music where you start a band in your garage, play gigs, and finally get signed; it is incredibly boring this season; Paula Abdul). But what officially got me was Gina being sent home last week. I stormed out of the living room and swore to never watch that show again. Yes, I thought Sanjaya was cute in the beginning but he has to go, America. He is awful. And that Hailey chick, practically showing her goodies in order to get votes is appalling, although my husband (and probably most other men) is becoming a bigger and bigger fan of hers the shorter her skirts get. Which I guess is whats keeping her on the show.
So, tonight the boycott begins, and hopefully I can stay strong and not get sucked in by everyone talking about it all the time. My one caveat is when Jon Bon Jovi is on - and I am just going to tivo it and watch only Jon talking, no performances. Let the boycott begin!

I agree!!!! I was upset when Chris Sligh left last week, but at least I understood -- he definitely wasn't doing that well ... but when Gina got cut too, it's just out of control. At least that leaves me an extra 1 1/2 hours every week to do what I want instead of being strapped to American Idol!
Congratulations, you just took a big step towards getting your musical sense back.
That show is everything that is wrong with music today.
Ben O.
I can't stand that show, although I've seen it when I'm visiting my parents.(My mom loves the thing.) Simon's an ass, Paula is an idiot and a panderer, and Randy is just all "dawg," like he's got to prove he's a black dude.
Kelly and Carrie have been successful, but not with "my" kind of music, so screw 'em. I like the artists who, like you said, do it the real way. AND I prefer the people who write and play the music, too, so we get an entire package.
Good for you! We have the show over here though I don't watch it - it is far too manufactured and insults my rock sensibilities!
I agree with every single thing you said about last week's AI. Enough already with the Sanjaya, Haley thing!
I think I'll watch "Gilmore Girls" and "House" instead ;-)
I hear ya girl. I may have to boycott too. This season is ridiculous.
I banned this show LONG LONG ago! Here is a good t-shirt for you!!!
PatsyDarling - classic moment: us at the Biersch Brewery in Nawlins, mocking each person who used the "wrong door, love" and letting them know vocally. Ah, classic, mean-spirited True and Patsy good times.
I've never watched those sort of shows. The acts are controlled by people and the winners have little say about what they release.
lol!
i still have never watched a single episode of this show but i have to admit, i do like listening to some of the winners that have gotten recording contracts out of it.
I'll be laughing all the way to a Sanjaya VICTORY!!!! All you pissed off people really need to join in with VFTW and give AI what it deserves.
BTW- Check my post today and see how much better Finland's Idols was compared with the crap they spoon feed us here....
I stand in solidarity with you TJG. I join your boycott.
Of course I have never watched a single episode of AI, so its easy peasy for me. Ra!
Since i dont watch it i dont need to boycott. But what i have seen that Sanjaya sure does suck
Yup...I think I stopped watching during the second finalist show this year. It is just bad.
Let me know when JBJ is on!!!
What is happening to Idol, is an inevitablity. This isn't a talent contest, it's a popularity contest, in the same way that a high school student body election isn't about politics. I don't care. I'm hoping the little Indian girl (I think she's called Sanjaya) with the mohawk wins, just to prove that anyone can win, as long as they get the correct number of votes.
I have refused to watch the show since the first two seasons – cannot tell you why it was just unappealing to me. But I do hear about the show from my wife and daughter who watch the show each and every week. Nope, I still refuse to watch it. I am of the older generation of garage to small gigs, to bigger gigs, and so forth. By that way making a name for you the hard way whether it is rock, country, or other.
I'm so glad Sanjaya is gone, i can now watch the show again.
