Well, maybe not exactly today, but it was 20 years ago that the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off was released. This is one of the greatest movies of all time and its is one of the movies I quote most often (I hail from a family where every other word we say to each other is a movie line).
I will get back to that in a minute, but first let me tell you how this movie inspired me. While it is a hysterically funny movie, my favorite scene is at the Chicago Art Museum where Cameron is looking at the Seurat painting while The Smiths play in the background. He stares and stares at the painting until it all becomes a blur, and it is really such a touching scene. My friend C and I decide we must go see this painting in real life, so we hop in the car and drive from Jersey to Chicago (stopping only to visit Notre Dame). It was one of the most fun trips in my life (and Chicago is one of my favorite places to visit...I even considered moving there). We basically traveled through Chicago as Ferris did - going to the Sears Tower and leaning against the window looking down (yes, they yell at you for doing that), going to a baseball game and yelling "Swing batta batta batta...sa-wing, batta," and of course, seeing that huge, beautiful painting (a copy of which hangs in my dining room) and singing "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" while gazing at it and letting it become a blur. Awesome.
So onto the quotes - my most often used quote is a possibly obscure one, but its "Snooty? Snotty!" from when they are in the fancy restaurant with Ferris pretending to be Abe Froehman, the sausage king of Chicago. There are so many good ones...what's your favorite quote from Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

I can't recall the exact quotes but the scene with Ferris' sister and Charlie Sheen in the police station is funny. He asks why she's there: "Drugs?" and she says something like "No, thanks."
I love that movie!
And of course since I live only 90 minutes from Chicago, I've been there many many times.
Favorite quote? That's an awesome question, I may borrow it for my Question of the Day if you don't mind. :-)
Mine is when the teacher is saying rollcall, "Buehler, Buehler, Buehler".
oooh... Ferris is actually one of my very first posts! i love that movie...
and my favorite quote... it's actually kinda cheesy, but i just love the message.
"Life happens very fast. If you don't stop and look around, you might just miss it."
Surely you can't be serious.
My sons name is cameron----for a reason--
Ferris: Cameron has never been in love - at least, nobody's ever been in love with him. If things don't change for him, he's gonna marry the first girl he lays, and she's gonna treat him like shit, because she will have given him what he has built up in his mind as the end-all, be-all of human existence. She won't respect him, 'cause you can't respect somebody who kisses your ass. It just doesn't work.
I like in the shower when he decries "isms of any kind."
Have you been 80stees.com? They have Ferris Bueller tees, including an "Abe the Sausage King" t-shirt which is adorable.
I still long for one of those totally amazing Ferris Bueller's Days off days. I love that not only did you have one, but you had THE day!
"Ferris Bueller, you're my hero." - gotta be the best movie ever, I never get tired of watching it. Wow, good to know that today's the anniversary! I'll have to quote it all night!
G
Gosh. I'll have to watch that movie again. You make it sound so great.
You know the scene where he is getting ready to go out for the day, and he's dancing around his room to the theme from I Dream of Jeannie? That is the ringtone on my cell - all because of that scene.
Errr...I think I only saw it once, and that was countless years ago.
Wow - I loved that movie!! I should rent it again... heck, maybe I should buy it!
Thanks for the memories!
LadyBug
You did all that? HOW COOL!!! I'd love to have seen the faces of the rest of the people in the museum when you two did sang in front of the painting. ;)
My favorite quote????
"Beuuuuullleerrrrrrr!!!"
Next? "If I was bleeding out my eyes, you guys would make me go to school."
"You hit me. Look don't make me participate in your stupid crap if you don't like the way I do it. You make me get out of bed, you make me come over here. You make me make a phony phone call to Edward Rooney? The man could squash my nuts into oblivion. And-and-and then, and then, you deliberately hurt my feelings"
"Look, it's real nice that you hope my brother is feeling better, but I'm in danger, okay? I am very cute, very alone and very protective of my body. I don't want it violated or killed, all right? I need help! Speaka de English? DICKHEAD!"
Classic....what a great movie!
When my ex-boyfriend and I first started dating, he used to call me late after a night with his friends. One night, as with most nights he kept calling until I answered. I just laid in bed going "He'll keep calling me and calling me. All right I'll go."
But my favorite has to be the one Evey posted. I use it often and NO ONE ever knows where it's from! "I am very cute, very alone and very protective of my body." ;) (But I used the Cameron one all too often! :) )
Hey, Jersey Girls have to stick together:
I am a finalist for "Best of Blogs," and am asking all my friends and fans to please vote.

Look under "biggest blogwhore" for Beyond You & Me.
When Cameron was in Egypt's Land, Let my Cameron Go...
BTW, the 20th anniverssary DVD is out.
I used the "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it" on my High School yearbook page.
I didn't read through all of your comments, so I am not sure if this one was already mentioned.
Jeannie is at the police station and the kid next to her says, "There's someone you should talk to."
Jeannie says, "If you say Ferris Bueller, you lose a testicle."
The Kid says, "Oh, you know him?"
I was lucky to live only an hour from Chicago growing up (and a mere 1/2 hour away from ND!) so it wasn't as much of a roadtrip for my friends and I to go to all of the Chicago destinations. Wow--I hadn't thought about that in years!
I can't remember any exact quotes from the movie. But now I want to see it again. Looks like I know what movie I'm going to rent next! I love your story, though. Your trip sounded inspired!
Last Girl On Earth
Not a big ferrie bueller fan (you know me, intellectual and cinematic snob! ;-)) but I read your post on work (below) with interest. It's a tricky situation. there's that quote about pens and office ink, but I suppose that doesn't cover friendships. tough one. let us know how it pans out...
trine
I knew I should have watched Ferris last night, but I didn't know I was going to be quizzed today. I suck at movie quotes, so I don't have one. ;-(
I guess I'll watch it tonight. I just wish I hadn't bought it last year because now I won't have all the cool anniversary special features.
It's one of mine and my husband's faves too. We used to rent that thing like every weekend when it first came out on VHS.
I love the part where his sister is hanging up the phone (actually, ramming the ear part into the base) saying, "DICK-HEAD!" I do that a lot. ;)
I love that movie!
my favorite quote?
"I'll go I'll go I'll go, ok ok alright, I'll go...goddamn! ... I'll go...."
seriously one of the best movies of all time.
so many awesome quotes.
if i had to pick a favorite???
"The 1961 Ferrari, two-fifty GT California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love, it is his passion . . ."
"It is his fault he didn't lock the garage."
okay, one more:
"He jeopordizes my ability to effectively govern this student body"
"Well, he makes you look like an ass is what he does Ed"
okay, fine, just one more:
"I do have a test today, that wasn't bullshit. It's on European Socialism. I mean, really, what's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So, who gives a crap if they're Socialists? They could be fascist anarchists, it still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car."
i watch way too much tv....
One of the best movies of all time! I don't think I can narrow it down, its just such a classic!
That would have to be one of my all time fav's! "Cameron's ass is so tight that if you stuck a lump of coal in there ..in a week, you'd have a diamond."
Every time I take a mental health day, I think of that movie ;0) Good for the soul!
How can your be so crule to ask for just one! Can I just say "ditto" to all the comments before me?!?! ;)
Um, ditto to all the comments before me.
Not necessarily my FAVORITE lines but the ones that are most well-used around my house...
the all purpose "Anyone? Anyone?" from Ben Stein,
and when Mom is complaining about Jeannie getting another speeding ticket and losing the Vermont deal & dad says "I think we should shoot her".
I use those two all the time. :)
I wasted a lot of time trying to make that sound Cameron makes, you know, that sounds like water dripping...I can't do it.
Anyone, anyone is classic, of course, but I've always been partial to Alan Ruck's Mr. Petersen impression.
He tells the principal, "I'd like to have a word with you by God". This is when Ferris knocks the phone out of his hand.
Maybe you had to be there, but since you're a fan, you might just be.:)
Great movie, I had Ferris' quote in my yearbook: "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and take a look around once in awhile, you could miss it!" :)
