A Slogan For My State

Did anyone see The Daily Show last night? I love me some Jon Stewart and that show is among my favorites even though it keeps me up past my bedtime. Well, last night they were talking about Jersey and how the state is looking for a slogan. They interviewed our interim governor Richard Codey (our last governor resigned amidst a gay scandal which was the least of his worries, really), which was pretty funny. They showed a map of my fine state and showed how perfect it is as a route to get to other places, but not a place to actually visit. They showed streets in what I assume to be Irvington or Newark and how scary and crime-ridden they are, and then roads in what I assume to be Hudson County (sorry Patsy Darling) and how congested and smelly they are. It was a pretty accurate piece on what people perceive Jersey to be. And it was really funny (yes, I can laugh at my own state's shortcomings).

But my real question is, why aren't they coming to the one and only True Jersey Girl for a slogan? "Bon Jovi, Big Hair, and Bruce - What More Could You Want?" I mean, if that (plus my charming personality) does not make you want to visit the Garden State, I don't know what will.

Submit that slogan - how could you not visit a state with a sense of humor?

And happy belated birthday from me too! And a happy to the lass above me as well.

Those are the three things that are only needed! Ok, so mine would be Bon Jovi, Bon Jovi, Bon Jovi! LOL.

I will tell you where I live is a nice neighborhood. Not the greatest, but I haven't had any problems in the 10 yrs. i've lived here. My neighbor city to the east of me is Detroit. Outer Detroit, not Downtown. To the West of me there is Livonia. Pansy high-class think that Livonia IS the place to be city. Ha. My Redford will kick your Livonias ass and sit back and enjoy a beer afterwards! Anyhow, Redford (my city) police cars have a bumper sticker states "I love Redford Twp. The gateway to the suburbs" Now I know your not familiar with my State and whatever, but everyone knows Detroit. I think this bumper sticker basically is stating that Redford is really no better than Detroit but it is a step up. And if you've made it to Redford your only "halfway" to a really beautiful upperclass city like Livonia. I guess my city is really Purgatory. Detroit is Hell and Livonia is Heaven. WTF is up with that? What this bumper sticker is really saying is that you almost made it to a great neighborhood. Not stating that our city is nice at all. I say Jersey Girl to come up with a new slogan for my city because the person that came up with that crap needs to be shot and dumped into the Detroit River. Anyhow, I've rambled on, now I'm done.
Have a good day!

Hilarious, Peanutt. I grew up in Redford and we always called it Deadford as there's nothing to do there, but at the same time I would live there again in a heartbeat (I grew up at W.Chicago and Inkster), but I wouldn't live in freaking white-ass Livonia if you paid me.

And for the record, I think Detroit gets a bum rap like New Jersey and it's not entirely warranted (just don't ask me about the mayor). Journalists find the parts of the City that will suit their story and that's all there is to it.

San Francisco has some hideous crime-ridden areas but you never hear anybody talking about that. I lived there for four years (in a bad neighborhood), so I can say that.

Personally, I have met some REALLY cool people from Jersey online, including on blogger. ;)

I read on imdb.com that Jon Stewart just turned 43. We're running out of time. When is he going to declare his love for me?

I'd go with your slogan! I cannot imagine what kind of cheesy slogan they'll end up picking..."Jersey: It's Not New York"

Your slogan is actually what got me to start reading your blog. You make me miss New Jersey more than I ever thought I would.

It's a great slogan--be sure to submit it!

All states have their share of "bad parts", too bad that they had to portray the state you love in that way.

hey the crime and stink is in North Jersey (and Camden)... not down here on the shore.
