Vacationing and Then Back To Work

The shore was great; the weather was perfect and Princess loved the ocean and the sand and the rides on the boardwalk. It was a wonderful little escape. Then yesterday, Hub took off from work and we took Princess to the zoo. She enjoyed herself, but I think Hub enjoyed it even more. Now today I am off to the mall to try to find navy shoes and grey shoes for work, to the dry cleaners to get all my old work clothes cleaned, and to Princess' doctor to get her paperwork filled out for daycare.

I start my new job on Monday. I got an HR Generalist position, which basically means I will do a little of everything. I used to be primarily focused on recruitment and dabbled in the other areas of HR (such as employee relations and benefits and stuff like that). So this job will give me a more general background and more experience. The company is only 10 minutes from my house and 11 minutes from Princess' daycare, so that is a good thing.

I am nervous about putting Princess in daycare, since she has been home with me since day one. She is such a smart kid, and I am afraid that she may just get lost in the shuffle with other kids and not get the one-on-one time she has with me. But I also think she is at a great age and stage to start daycare. She loves being with other kids and I think she needs to be socialized more than she is now. And I am very comfortable with the daycare place we picked. They use a combination of play and learning for kids Princess' age and have a great curriculum. It came highly recommended from several friends on our block. But its still a nervewracking thing to give your kid up to someone you don't know for 9 hours a day.

Anyone got any advice on that?

Good luck with the shoe shopping! Sounds like the job and the daycare are going to work out really well. Princess will probably have a blast at daycare getting to hang out with the other kids!

Congrats on your new job! Sounds like a good one. And have fun shoe shopping... I adore it but it can be a pain when you have to find certain things NOW!

I did the same thing back in December when I went back to work full-time. Katie, she was 14 months at the time, hated being left, but played it until a minute or two after the door was shut and I was on my way...the sitter said she never thought another thing about me not being there until I walked back in...it did her good with sharing and distancing herself from me...now that I'm not working again, she stuck to me again like a piece of Velcro...

We are debating on finding daycare for her for one day a week...so she can get back into knowing there are others out there other than her MOMMY!

It was hard...then it got easier...I promise!

I really like what Bev said. Socialization is an amazing thing. When my daughter started daycare (part-time) she became a different person - for the better. She is more open and she even communicates with adults a WHOLE lot more than she used to. I had her home with me for 2 years. She might respond negatively at first, but in the end, she will LOVE it and have so much fun!!

Glad you guys had a good time at the shore.

Sorry I have no advice on the whole daycare thing, but having no kidlets forces me to lack that experience:)

Congrats on the new job that is so awesome!

I have friends who were nervous about putting their kids in daycare at first. But after a while they begin to like it and now leave their kids there for days at a time.

No advice on the kid thing as I have only the cats and they're really easy to leave alone. ;-)

Do you have DSW in Jersey? If so, great place to find shoes. Good luck and have fun!

Good luck with the daycare thing. I know it will be a little nervewracking, but at a certain age like you said it is good for them. I'm sure she'll love it!

True: I'm sure it is a nerve wracking thing to leave princess with someone at a daycare, but I am sure it will all work out! :)

Did you See Bon Jovi on the World Music Awards last night?! :)

Welcome back, Jersey. There just don't seem enough hours in the day at work nowadays.

I can't give any daycare advice, since I didn't put my kids in, but my hubby's grandkids have been in daycare since they were very young and they seem normal and well-adjusted! Just relax and keep a close eye on her development. If you notice any red flags, start to question the daycare. And remember to pop in unannounced now and then, just to see what's going on!

I remember the feeling the same way when I went back to work. I don't think I ever cried so much. Now, I am very comfortable with the boys going. They do well interacting with other children. And they need that.

Good luck to you and congrats on the new job. You will get through it!

Not really advice...BUT I think we parents always worry so much more than is necessary. I'm sure Princess will be fine - the day care centre sounds wonderful :)

Congrats on the HR Generalist position. The one I interviewed for wants to hire me as a consultant HR person for a bit. Hopefully I'll land a permanent gig eventually. Anyway...I'm glad you all had a great vacation. :)

I totally understand your feelings. they are more than acceptable. I felt the same whay when I was leaving Helene in daycare for the first, second and third time, but it gets easier.
Helene has loved all of it. It is really godo for her to be with other kids and other adults too, and we still have time together around that, so she hasn't suffered for it.
My only advice is that she will pick up on your nerves and fears about leaving her, and it will scare her, so try not to show her you're upset when you drop her off and leave her. Cry your eyes out if you want but do it outside, otherwise god knows what she'll think.. Im sure you wouldn't do that anywaym being the strong woman ou are, but you never know how it will affect you.

GOOD LUCK and - last but NOT least - CONGRATULATIONS on your job, go you! that's excellent!!!

congrats on the new job! good luck!

as for Princess, well my nephew is in day care as well and he's now 2 and a half, and such a bright kid. he's always been a little advanced and i was worried as well that when he went into day care that he would just slow down to average, but he really hasn't. he's sharp as a tack and everyday he surprises me with how smart he really is. Princess will really benefit from the socialisation, I'm sure.

I struggled with putting my daughter in daycare. It was tough since I brought her to work with me everyday (family business, I'm the family, so she was welcome). When she was 2 I decided to find something for her on a part-time basis, where I would pick her up at lunch time and she'd spend the rest of the day with me. That took weeks to find, okay, it was months. I decided on a lady my mom knew who did in-home care, she was wonderful.

It was tough letting my daughter go those first few weeks, and the emotions I felt inside were hard to manage. Zoe loved being with the other kids, and there were about 5 of them, all girls, all around her age, so that really helped.

You'll do fine, and Princess will do fine. You can email me if you need support! :-)

Congrats on your job!

True, I had a hard time taking my boys to daycare at first, and gradually we got into a groove (they both started around 6 months). Now that they are 2 and 4 it is clear to me that they have not suffered at all, because I am lucky enough to have a flexible job and don't leave them there long hours as I've noticed some parents do (and I doubt you will be one of them), and because they are so socialized and really get a lot out of daycare.

We also use a center, which was important to me for the accountability. But the other upside is the socialization with kids their own age, and the activities that they do there. For me, being a very non-crafy person, it has been a god send, because they do lot's of artsy and crafty and fun stuff, great outdoor play, group stories and games, play groups with home living centers and the like, plus there is a cool music program, no TV's, and great meals. If I were at home with them all day, sure they would get their mother's love. But they get that anyway, in large quantities. When they are at daycare, they ALSO get lot's of fun things to do that I can guarantee they wouldn't get at home. And less time with the TV than if I were at home with them!

I think Princess will do great once you are all used to the routine!
