Bitchy Bosses and Signing Off

So today I am doing the mature thing. I am calling up my former boss and kissing up to her for a while so I can get a good reference out of her. Now, don't get me wrong. I was a great employee for my company and I worked very hard for her. But she is one of those bosses where you never know what you're gonna get from her. Some days, she would tell me how smart I was and how much I contributed to the department. Other days, she would act as if I was not even in the same building. So, since I don't know which person she will be when my references call her, I have to at least get the Gods Of The Bipolar Bosses on my side and remind her, subtly, how awesome I am.
----------
Isn't it totally weird when you have your daily blog reads, and then all of a sudden one of them says - "its been nice, but I am not doing this anymore"? This has happened to me quite a few times since I have been blogging - most recently with Bridget and Mel, both of whom seem like they will actually be sticking around - and its a totally bizarre thing. These are people I don't know, I've never met, and yet somehow I miss them when they sign off. Do you all feel the same way when a blog friend calls it quits?

yeah, I was stunned when Bridge "signed off" last week. You get used to following their daily lives and events. Hope you are not going anywhere!!!! :)

You might wanna slip a little lithium into her coffee cup before she sits down to write your reference letter.

Yes, Clarity at diaryland has threatened to quit every so often when people say shitty things to her and I always tell her that I would understand, but that she shouldn't let the assholes get to her. And if someone doesn't post for a week or so, you start to get worried about them. I'm so co-dependent!

good luck on the reference thing... LOL on the Gods of Bipolar!;)

it's sad when a blogfriend decides to call it quits. but then again, i also get those feelings when keeping up with my blog seems too much work. i have the coolest blogfriends 'coz they always ask what's happened to me if i missed a day of posting. ehehehe.

Bav had a great idea about having a friend call for you to see what your ex-bipolar boss will say!

Too funny about the bipolar boss. Now that you mention it, my former boss must be bipolar. One day she would love me, the next she acted like I wasn't even there. What an idiot. I don't even use her as a reference anymore. Too risky.

Good luck with the job search!

I've never had a blog pal call it quits...yet. Hope none of them do!

Bipolar boss. Good thing you got outta there, but hey, hope she's on a manic when she recommends you to your new employer!

This was a truly funny blog that signed off while on the top of its game:

That is so true when someone stops blogging. I go through a whole set of emotions from concern that the person is OK to jealousy that the person must have a more exciting life than me if they have to stop blogging! And, in reality, you don't even know the person. Like you -- I don't know you at all, and I'm already worried about you and a new job.

i have only been blogging for under a month, but i already feel like the connections are strong, and I would be very sad if people like you signed off for good. and i really do get nervous when people who post everyday don't post for a few days. especially when in the last post the person seemed depressed.

good luck with the ref.

I am sure your boss will give you a good reference. When it comes down to it, people know and understand when your trying to get a job and need a great reference.

I love my blog buddies, I hope no one else closes up shop! :)

When I read the title of your post I was all "OH NO! She's signing off?!?"

But, whew! you're not. I would be sad if you did :)

Good luck with the second interview!

Obce you've got the reference, you can tell her how awesome and how much better at the job you are than her.

Hope you were successful in charming your old boss.

Yeah it is weird how it jolts your day to find out a blogging buddy is contemplating hanging it up!

I second the lithium suggestion! I've never had a blog pal call it quits, but I'd imagine that if I had never met them I'd still be a bit mopey about it.

People are still getting used to the whole "online relationships" thing.

Since I've adopted the policy that online and real-life don't mix very well, I've not had to move my blog once.

I've been forced to pull the disappearing act, only due to the people that I interact on a RL basis(ex lovers, ex friends) can't deal with who I am in a "literary/literal" sense of being. Isn't that ridiculous?

Had a job and left--they loved me
went back--they hated me

After I left because I hated them even more I had a friend who is an HR VP at a large company call--do the chat thing and ask for a writtten reference

It was glowing and I know that they think I had lost a hundred IQ points. Think people are scared to give bad refrences

I totally morn the loss of a blog when they pack up and go away. It's happened to me once so far! That was so wierd.

Please don't ever do that to us Jersey. :-)

I was just thinking about your second topic today. So many of my reads have either quit completely or seem to be floundering and are taking breaks.

I'm such a new blogger, that I haven't felt the loss of a blog I read regularly... yet.
But I bet it will be weird and sad.

They will give you a good reference! Everything is so jacked up nowadays, companies rarely give much more than "yes he/she did work here" just to save their ass from being sued.

Yes, I have been abandoned before by fellow bloggers and I have been left questioning, WHY would they stop because I don't know if I could ever do that. But then again, you and I both may be working soon (see my place for news) and maybe we won't have the time we used to to devote to our "friends" I will surely make the effort though.

First, good luck with the arse-kissing!! ;-)

second, yes it's weird. One of my favourite bloggers of all time, the mad mad of the mad haiku, signed off some weeks ago, due to pressures from work wanting to know about his blog etc, and i was FURIOUS. When good bloggers just stop i don't always get it, but sometimes i do and sometimes I feel like quitting too... but I've been doing it for so long now, it's become such a part of my every day life i think I'd miss it too much. instead i try to reinvent myself, hence the video-blogging.
